Is-sinjal għal FEKRUNA TAL-ART isir biż-żewġ idejn forma ta’ 5 magħluqa fuq xulxin bil-pala tħares ’l isfel. Il-pala tal-ewwel id tistrieħ fuq il-wiċċ tal-id l-oħra. Is-saba’ l-kbir tat-tieni id jogħla u jinżel ’l barra.

Is-sinjali għal ŻGĦIR u għal KBIR isiru miż-żewġ idejn li jieħdu l-forma ta’ Ċ u jħarsu lejn xulxin f’linja orizzontali. Id-distanza bejn l-idejn tindika d-daqs tal-fekruna. Is-sinjal għal FEKRUNA TAL-ART jiġi qabel is-sinjal għal ŻGĦIR jew KBIR.

The sign for TORTOISE is made with both hands in the shape of closed 5, with palms facing downwards. One hand lies over the top of the other hand. The thumb of the second hand is raised and lowered outwards.

The signs for SMALL and BIG are made with both hands in the shape of C. The palms face each other in a horizontal direction. The distance between the two hands indicates the relative size of the tortoise. The sign for TORTOISE is used before the sign for SMALL or BIG.

The sign for MANY is used after the sign for TORTOISE to express the plural. A classifier is sometimes used. In that case one or both hands in the shape of curved V is placed in various places in the signing space as though several tortoises were being placed there.

When the noun TORTOISE is the subject of a verb of movement, the hand forms a curved V and is placed in a particular point in the signing space. It becomes the classifier, moving according to the action.
